Georgia Bookseller Perry Fallwell @ Booksaga blog has a once in a lifetime event. A large portion of the books in a bulk buy turned out to be hollowed out and containing a certain now deceased gentleman’s personal porn photos. Good thing he’s dead, I bet he’d die of embarrassment.

How was your weekend? mine was . . uneventful just the way I likes ‘em . . . But unfortunately not only have half my vendors gone on vacation but it seems they took all my customers with them. Oh well, I can pretend that his downtown was intended, and try to get something accomplished, right?
Several sweet days of intermittent torrents of rain have given way to sticky humid heat, but you can’t fault New England it does have variety a plenty when it comes to weather. I emptied my Paypal account into the electric company’s back pocket, so the fans will continue to keep my roommates cool. [And in case you are wondering, the remaining newborns are doing fine.] And I did manage to get in a few good miles on my antiquated bicycle with my antiquated knees. Turns out I needed to DRIVE to somewhere flat.
Meanwhile I am going through my hard drive trying to finish off numerous untidy projects and shifting as much as I can off my C: drive onto my spares.
Here I found these in the The Knowledge Bank at OSU – COOL EH?

same shit different week – still no sales on the horizon, or the landscape or in the immediate foreground for that matter. Not that I am running out of things to do, but the utility companies like it when i remember them from time to time.
DIY • I thought this was rather fascinating, here’s a nice essay on coin photography.
save the trees • Princeton University Press join Oxford, Yale and the UC in putting some of their titles into e-book form, allowing students directly download their textbooks onto Kindles.
NOW we are talking, I think we all know my stance on Ebooks replacing real ones – ain’t ever gonna happen. But THIS, THIS is one of the best uses for ebooks ever. I have always thought that books such as textbooks, reference books, computer manuals, business books, any sort of non-fiction title that is outdated very quickly should be replaced with alternate formats. Maybe if we produce fewer disposable books, the ones we DO produce will begin to hold their value.

cookies • Make zine’s blog had a snippet about my Joy of Erasers blog. which means I will get a small spike in visitations. My Instructable’s instructable about cleaning discarded fans earned me a small prize – a sew on patch and a few stickers. hey, you take your cookies when you can get them.

worth hearing • From NPR
The Library of Congress has managed to re-create —with the help of rare-book collectors —-the missing two-thirds of Thomas Jefferson’s Library. Mark Dimunation, of the Library of Congress, discusses Jefferson’s tastes and rare-book detectives.
I listened…they never mentioned one of the reasons Jefferson was so willing to sell his books was that he was skint broke.

well worth hearing • From WBUR’s On Point Tom Ashbrook interview’s Amazonian Jeff Bezos
